Inside a 3-in-1 E-Drive Unit: Motor, Controller and Reducer in One Housing

A 3-in-1 electric drive unit combines the traction motor, the motor controller and the reduction gearbox in a single assembly. For vehicle makers it replaces three suppliers, three sets of brackets and a bundle of high-current cables with one part.

Why integrate?

  • Shorter power path. Phase cables between controller and motor become internal busbars, reducing losses and EMI.
  • Smaller package. One housing frees space for battery capacity.
  • Faster vehicle development. The motor, controller calibration and gear ratio are matched at the factory.
  • Sealing. One IP67 housing instead of several connectors exposed to water and dust.

Vector 3-in-1 drive units

  • Power classes of 5, 10 and 30 kW for electric motorcycles and three-wheelers.
  • Up to 95% efficiency, IP67, helical reduction gears.
  • Suitable for new vehicles and for ICE-to-EV conversion.

When to choose separate components instead. If you need a specific motor, an unusual gear ratio or a controller mounted remotely for thermal reasons, the T-Series controllers and our motor platforms let you build a custom drivetrain.
